Eccomi di nuovo tra i muri dell’università!

Mi sento sempre più straniero a varcare quella porta e sempre più diverso dagli “accademici” di quei corridoi ma la giornata di oggi mi ha regalato ottime sensazioni come quando, fino a poco tempo fa, lavoravo da quelle parti!

Mi trovo in Aula Stoppani presso il Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra di Milano, nel quale viene innaugurata oggi alle 11:00 la mostra dei fossili cinesi.

E’ un’esperienza emozionante ascoltare la delegazione cinese giunta fino a qui per presenziare all’inaugurazione della mostra che si trova nel modesto atrio del Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra di Milano…ma non scrivo oltre.

Lascio a Daniele Tona, che ormai ha anche “le chiavi di casa”, l’onere di informarvi su questa miriade di notizie curiose e interessanti “Made in China” scritte con la sua impeccabile chiarezza.

Nelle scorse settimane l’Università degli Studi di Milano ha ospitato un’interessante esposizione di reperti fossili nell’ambito della collaborazione del Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra con i colleghi della Peking University. Grazie a questa collaborazione tra il 16 febbraio e il 16 marzo 2016 sono stati esposti per la prima volta in Occidente alcuni dei fossili della fauna del Triassico Medio proveniente dalla zona di Xingyi, nella Cina Meridionale.

La fauna fossile dell’area di Xingyi è stata la prima a essere individuata nelle rocce del Triassico Medio della Cina Meridionale, a metà del XX secolo. I ritrovamenti di fossili nella regione si sono poi moltiplicati negli ultimi quindici anni, quando i contadini del posto hanno iniziato a estrarre i fossili e a rivenderli; sebbene ciò abbia permesso di portare alla luce grandi quantità di esemplari da quelle rocce così ricche di fossili, è anche vero che spesso gli autoctoni prelevavano i resti senza tener conto dello strato e della località precisa di appartenenza, perdendo così informazioni geografiche e stratigrafiche importanti per lo studio degli organismi fossilizzati e dell’ambiente in cui vissero.

Per rimediare a questa grave carenza di dati la Peking University ha stretto accordi con le autorità locali di Xingyi per istituire un geoparco allo scopo di tutelare i livelli fossiliferi e gestirne l’attività di scavo. Da Tarassaco a Soffione!

Il 21 marzo, primo giorno di primavera, girellavo per i campi in ottima compagnia e ci si chiedeva come si trasformasse in soffione il Tarassaco (Taraxacum officinale).

Gli acheni piumosi sono i frutti del Tarassaco e contengono i semi. Questi  vengono portati in giro dal vento (dicesi inseminazione anemocora) da una specie di mini paracadute naturale detto “Pappo”.

Parlandone, abbiamo pensato che su internet esistesse già qualche documento video a riguardo, infatti così è.

Il video non è di scienzafacile, quindi, se volete mettere un apprezzamento, mettetelo sul canale youtube di Neil Bromhall al quale vanno i nostri complimenti vivissimi e un sentito ringraziamento!

Me lo ha portato qualche giorno fa, sperando che sapessi di cosa si trattava.
