L’eclissi solare del 4 gennaio 2011

Con il termine “eclissi” (dal greco èkleipsis = sparizione) si indica la temporanea invisibilità di un astro, o di una parte di esso, per interposizione di un altro astro.

Ciò avviene grazie alla caratteristica che ha la luce di propagarsi in modo rettilineo, perciò, se un corpo viene a trovarsi tra una sorgente luminosa e un altro corpo, ha luogo il fenomeno che chiamiamo “ombra”.

È ciò che è accaduto il 4 gennaio, quando il primo novilunio* del 2011 ci ha regalato uno spettacolo emozionante oltre che abbastanza raro. La Luna si è trovata quasi allineata tra il Sole e la Terra e la sua ombra, della Luna appunto, ha nascosto alla nostra vista una parte del disco solare. Si è trattato, quindi, di un’eclissi di sole parziale.

Canto d’autunno

L’inverno è alle porte e i nostri centri urbani si popolano di vivaci pettirossi che il freddo rende più intraprendenti. Agli individui che vi risiedono abitualmente tutto l’anno si aggiungono quelli delle vicine montagne e alcuni arrivano da molto lontano, dalle fredde terre del Nord Europa.

L’aria dolce e indifesa di questo uccellino cela un’indole solitaria e territoriale, non divide la propria area di alimentazione con individui della stessa specie, anzi la difende gelosamente mostrando, fiero, l’inconfondibile macchia arancione. Diventa quindi necessario affermare il territorio conquistato, così sia i maschi che le femmine, che d’aspetto si assomigliano molto, cantano. Il Pettirosso è uno dei pochi uccelli che canta tutto l’anno, tra i primi a farsi sentire all’alba e uno degli ultimi a smettere la sera. Anzi, non è improbabile sentire i suoi armoniosi vocalizzi anche di notte, specialmente nelle aree urbane soggette a disturbo antropico (inquinamento acustico, forte illuminazione). Il segnale deve giungere forte e chiaro ai propri simili e durante le ore notturne, quando il traffico è minore, il canto può risultare più efficace.
