Museo di Arsago Seprio (VA) – La nuova sala paleontologica

E’ davvero una soddisfazione per me, vedere i lavori che vanno a buon fine.

Un paio di anni fa, tramite il mio prof. di Paleontologia dei Vertebrati, venni contattato dalla Sopraintendenza ai beni Archeologici e tra qualche peripezia, feci un inventario di fossili al Museo di Arsago Seprio.

Lo scopo dell’inventario era regolarizzare la collezione presente in museo, donata dal Dott.Politi, in modo da poter ufficializzare e realizzare un’esposizione di carattere scientifico, divulgativo e didattico presso lo splendido e già presente Civico Museo Archeologico di Arsago.

La collezione inventariata, si componeva principalmente di una fauna a pesci e rettili italiani. Erano presenti anche alcuni resti di invertebrati e di vegetali…

Molti fossili (soprattutto pesci) provenivano da Bolca, famosa località fossilifera che si trova a nord di Verona e i Rettili erano del Monte San Giorgio che ben conoscete se frequentate scienzafacile.it.

Tutti i fossili erano esteticamente notevoli ed alcuni anche in ottimo stato di conservazione. Alcuni di questi erano rari, nonché scientificamente importanti.

Il lavoro di inventario, per quanto semplice, fu minimamente problematico per vari motivi, logistici e di rapporti con la Sopraintendenza…

Comunque sia, riuscii a finire il lavoro in un tempo relativamente breve grazie alle istituzioni di Arsago, primo tra tutti l’assessore alla Cultura Martino Rosso che mi venne incontro aprendomi il Museo anche quando la gente dovrebbe far vacanza e che mi permise di lavorare senza dover guardare troppo l’orologio!

Durante il mio lavoro, la dottoressa Alpago Novello, colonna del Museo di Arsago, mi portò a vedere una nuova sala adiacente al museo. La saletta era in restauro ma mi fu anticipato che avrebbe accolto la nuova collezione paleontologica Politi.

Mantennero la promessa e qualche giorno fa ho assistito all’inaugurazione della nuova sala visitando il museo in prima persona.

Ho espresso il mio piacere per il risultato a Martino Rosso e al dott. Fabio Bona che si è occupato della parte scientifica, dell’esposizione e dei pannelli didattici molto esaurienti, utili sia per il turista sia alle visite da parte delle scolaresche. Fabio, se non lo conoscete già è un amico, un collega, nonchè responsabile degli studi, e degli scavi alla Caverna Generosa del Monte Generoso in Val d’Intelvi .

Il risultato ve lo lascio tutto da scoprire. Vale certo la pena fare un giro da quelle parti.

Io sono rimasto affascinato non solo dalla nuova sala Paleontologica ma anche e soprattutto dai reperti archeologici relativi alle antiche popolazioni che abitarono la zona a partire da almeno 3000 anni a.C. fino a poche centinaia di anni fa e dalla storia che se ne percepisce…

Allora, passate ad Arsago per una visita.

Oggi, la seconda domenica di marzo stavamo gironzolando io e i miei amici climbers (ovvero scalatori) prima di affrontare una bellissima giornata di arrampicata tra amici e Orlando mi ha chiesto come mai il Naviglio Grande rimanesse asciutto per un maggior tempo rispetto al solito. Io, non conoscendo il motivo preciso, gli ho detto che capita qualora ci siano da fare interventi di manutenzione straordinaria…

Orlando a quel punto mi dice che, già che fanno manutenzione, dovrebbero entrare con le ruspe a dragare il fondo in modo da pulirlo da tutta la sporcizia e dalla spazzatura che è stata buttata dentro in questo paio di mesi di asciutta.

In effetti è impressionante la quantità immonda di immondizia che è stata gettata nel Naviglio dalle mani della gente in questo breve tempo. Fa venire la nausea anche solo pensarci. Mi nausea quella gente ovviamente!

Ora però cerco di abbandonare questo tono da predicatore e veniamo alla stratigrafia, ovvero una scienza che si occupa di studiare le formazioni rocciose della Terra, le loro origini, le loro caratteristiche e le relazioni (geometriche e temporali ad esempio) tra di esse…

Uno dei privilegi della stratigrafia è che il suo studio permette di fare correlazioni, ovvero di poter fornire le informazioni per confermare che strati rocciosi (ma anche non per forza rocciosi) ad una certa distanza tra loro (anche molto grande) hanno la stessa età di origine.

Per far questo si cercano ad esempio nelle formazioni rocciose alcuni segnali di eventi accaduti in tutto il pianeta Terra che segnano un marker, ovvero un riferimento (un livello marker appunto!)… oppure si cercano gli strati con gli stessi fossili, o meglio, le stesse associazioni di fossili. Si può anche andare a misurare la magnetizzazione delle rocce (o comunque dei sedimenti) per percepire la variazione del campo magnetico terrestre e confrontarlo con una scala di riferimento di cui ci occuperemo magari in futuro… Ad esempio anche un’eruzione vulcanica di enormi dimensioni lascia un livello marker di ceneri che va a depositarsi nelle zone con sedimentazione del pianeta, basti pensare all’eruzione del Mount Saint Elen del 1980 e a quanta cenere e gas sono stati eruttati e sparsi per tutta Leggi tutto “Stratigrafia del 2000, i livelli markers”

Mi verrebbe da chiedere:”Invece come possiamo chiamare quello che ha gettato quel copertone di camion?”

Ma ormai sapete che credo nella divulgazione delle cose buone, più che negli insulti, quindi preferisco dirvi che, dopo una faticaccia che non immaginate, il copertone è nel mio cortile pronto per andare in discarica insieme ad altri generi di schifezze che ho raccolto su quella riva.

Mi trovavo sulla riva per una potatura e il mantenimento di una riva sana fa parte del dovere di chi abita sulla riva di una roggia.

Una roggia è un corso d’acqua artificiale che  serve per portare acqua di irrigazione ai campi.

Io quest’acqua la utilizzo da sempre per innaffiare l’orto ma l’alveo va tenuto pulito. Così facendo, oltre a far star bene il mio orticello, potranno star bene gli orticelli più a valle ma anche anfibi, pesci, rettili, uccelli, crostacei, insetti, anellidi, ecc e “pure” qualche mammifero.

Mentre stamattina mi recavo sulla riva, ho notato un Uccello di grandi dimensioni in volo …e in fuga, ma non sembrava la “solita” Garzetta che tutti i giorni è a caccia in queste acque.

Il profilo del becco inconfondibile e il colore decisamente bianco …con un po’ di nero qua e là non mi ha lasciato dubbi: E’ un Ibis! L’uccello sacro degli antichi egizi!

Ho imbracciato ovviamente la macchina fotografica ed ho realizzato subito questa pessima fotografia. Nel caso dovesse tornare (l’Ibis, non il copertone), i fotografi amici di scienzafacile sono già ai blocchi di partenza!!!

Genere e specie sono Threskiornis aethiopicus.

Dovrebbe avere tutto il collo nero, ma questo è un individuo giovane che ha meno di un anno. Sarà nato la primavera scorsa e ha ancora il collo un po’ bianco….

Non sto a catalogarvi tutte le caratteristiche dell’Ibis sacro. E’ già pieno di siti internet che lo fanno.

L’unica cosa a cui accenno è la sua distribuzione che storicamente è in Africa a sud del Sahara ed occasionalmente un poco più a nord… Qualcuno però ne ha allevati in Italia e, come succede per le nutrie, ce lo troviamo qui!!!

Non è proprio lo stesso caso, anche perchè sembra, forse, magari, che Leggi tutto “Questo uccello è un Dio!!! L’Ibis sacro!”
